Carla BruniWhen Carla Bruni married Nicolas Sarkozy the world marvelled at her style, elegance and beauty. But her fresh-faced look may not be all it seems.

A somewhat unflattering close-up revealed this week that the strain of her once rock 'n' roll lifestyle and her new role as the wife of the French president may be catching up with her.

And, as many women in the public eye do, there is even a hint of Botox.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr Alex Karidis told the Daily Mail: "Carla is showing all the classic signs that suggest a devotion to Botox and fillers."

Dr Karidis suggests that the frozen forehead effect could be down to the modern surgery of choice while her "plump cheeks" and tiny shadows beneath the nose were "probably caused by injectable fillers".

And the evidence from skinmedics.co.uk director Dr Dav Panacer was equally damning.

Describing the change in skin tone over the past year as "dramatic", Dr Panacer points out the likely effects of "sun damage, smoking, alcohol and stress".

The marked wrinkles beneath her eyes, he says, are possibly the effect of filler injected into the cheeks, forcing up the skin above.

But whether from hard living and stress or the overuse of Botox and fillers, the woman once famed for her beauty is beginning to look well beyond her 42 years.
